DagmarsHome CupOfKindness 1

“Oh, so where did you meet Dagmar,” my mother asked.  When I answered “Twitter” she tossed me a raised eye-brow.  Yes, it’s true… you too can connect and interact with some incredible people via Social Media!  She and I first “met” on Twitter a year or two ago, when I started following the fabulous DIYer, thrifting, home interior designing, social media whiz, Dagmar Bleasdale, from Dagmar’s Home.  Like me, Dagmar was a Westchester based mom and blogger.

Several months ago, she was kind enough to invite me over to the Blue Cottage for coffee, and since then we’ve had many wonderful chats about family, motherhood, social media and life in general.  Her home is just as lovely as she is, and her kindness towards me has been as appreciated as that first cup of coffee in the morning.

BlueCottage DrawersToday, Dagmar and I are headed down to the city to attend the NY NOW show at the Jacob Javits Center, followed by the first annual HGTV Magazine’s Blogger Block Party, and I couldn’t be more excited!

You may not be aware, but I used to be quite the DIYer!  Many moons ago, when my then-husband and I had purchased our first home, we removed enough wallpaper to actually REACH the moon! We removed old carpet that had been hiding beautiful wood floors, and replaced an entire room with FLOR carpet tiles.  We painted walls, paneling, built in bookcases, and old furniture.  In my daughter’s room, before she was born, I painted murals of trees along her walls.  We didn’t have much to spend, but the it was a labor of love and it was ours. Our home was warm and it was lovely.

Years passed, and life… well, life changed quite a bit.  I haven’t had much time to work on projects to make my apartment now as stylish as our home once had been.  My daughter, now seven, insists that toys, crayons and her books are a much needed accessory in every room, and most days, I don’t mind.  Our walls are dotted with drawings tapped haphazardly, or photographs of her and I (a few of her and astronauts) and each piece has marked a new kind of Do-It-Myself era.  “Hello, DIY.  It’s nice to see you again.”

Well, ladies and gents, I’m setting off to reconnect with bits and pieces of who I once was years ago.  Today marks a reconnection of appreciating a beautiful and functional home.  I will allow myself to oo-and-ah and fabulously designed and crafted pieces and will try not to drool too much.

In the coming weeks, I’ll be opening up a bit more and you’ll hear about a new project that I am launching, one in which that I hope you will become involved in right along with me!  There are many exciting things starting to take shape, and if you find yourself here for the first time, welcome and make yourself at home!
